What To Expect

Al Ain National Museum
The oldest museum in the country contains an adobe fort, an oasis, and three main sections:

Archaeology: you have exhibits from the Stone Age to the founding of the UAE, artifacts from Mesopotamia, the Bronze and Iron Ages, prehistoric jewelry, flint tools, 8,000-year-old arrowheads, or the oldest known irrigation techniques (falaj, plural aflaj) with which Al Ain flourished and allowed the construction of its characteristic adobe buildings.

Ethnography: Explore the traditions, customs, education, agriculture, medicine and daily life of Emiratis and how much has changed in just a few decades.

Gifts: An exhibition of the gifts Sheikh Zayed received from leaders from around the world, including a moon rock given by NASA.

Al Jahili Fort
This 19th century fortress was transformed into a cultural center and now houses a permanent exhibition dedicated to Sir Wilfred Thesiger, the intrepid explorer, travel writer and photographer who, with his Emirati and Omani companions, crossed the world's largest sand mass, the Rub' al Khali (literally, "the Empty Quarter"), twice in the 1940s. The fort also houses a temporary exhibition gallery. Surrounded by a lush park, it won the prestigious Terra Prize for contemporary architecture in raw earth.
