What To Expect

Dubai Museum & Al Fahidi Fort
Currently Dubai Museum is closed.

Dubai Museum is situated at the south of Dubai Creek, at the Al Souk Al Kabir area which teems with vigorous trade and is close to the Ruler's Court (the monarch's divan). It was built back in 1787, about 200 years ago, as the premises of the monarch and a fort of defence, since it sat on the border of the urban Dubai at the time. Later on, this fort turned into an arsenal for artillery and weapons. It was also used as a prison for the outlaws. This fort was renovated during the reign of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. It was opened in 1971 (the year the federation was formed), to be an official museum that displays the history of Dubai and its original heritage. In 1995, another underground museum was established and added to the old fort.

Bur Dubai Abra Station
The abras or ‘water taxis’ run every few minutes throughout the entire day across four stations along the creek. The first route goes from Deira Old Souk Abra Station (near the Spice Souk) to Bur Dubai Abra Station (west of the Old Souk). The second, much busier route runs continuously from Al Sabkha Abra Station (just southwest of Baniyas Square) to Dubai Old Souk Abra Station.

One of Dubai’s most famous tourist landmarks, the Burj Al Arab often stands among the top five – if not the absolute peak – of the world’s most iconic hotels.

Since its opening in late 1999, the hotel with its distinctive sail-shaped silhouette, has thrust Dubai onto the global luxury tourism landscape. Built on a triangular man-made island reclaimed from the sea, the hotel and its billowing sail-like structure rise 321 metres above the sea, offering panoramic views of the Arabian Gulf.

Palm Jumeirah
Dubai is globally recognised for its world firsts, and The Palm Jumeirah is an impressive example.

Viewed from above, the manmade island resembles a stylised palm tree, which was built from reclaimed land mass and a series of artificial archipelagos.

Palm Jumeirah is home to some of Dubai's most luxurious resorts, including Atlantis The Palm, Jumeirah Zabeel Saray, the One&Only The Palm and many more. It is also packed with fantastic dining options worth visiting, such as Nobu and 101 Dining Lounge even if you’re not staying at one of the many resorts.

The Palm is well developed – with roads, tunnels and public transport. So you can easily access the various hotels, restaurants and attractions on the island. You can also hop aboard the Palm Monorail that runs to Atlantis that sits at the helm.

Visiting peacocks outside of the Royal Palace, aka Zabeel Palace, is a fun and free activity for your holiday in Dubai. We had a tour driver taking us around, but if you did have your own transportation you could simply drive up to the outskirts of the palace and look for where other tour cars are parked. Then just pull over on the side of the road and enjoy the peacocks!
